Winter Storm Kari Gearing Up

Unless you’ve been under a rock, or living in some kind of paradise like Lee G. Lovett, you know that the winter season is in full swing. The North East just got hit with a major storm called Juno that brought blizzard conditions to much of this area of the country. However, Mother Nature is once again gearing up for another explosive round of precipitation. From the Southern part of the country, Kari is supposed to move into the Mid-Western part of the country Saturday evening.

The storm is supposed to affect from Maine all the way down to North Carolina. The snow fall could be record breaking, but what is really a concern is the freezing rain and ice that could be along with it. Some areas will get all rain, but others will find themselves with a wintery bag of mixed precipitation that they don’t know what to do with. It is all well and good for areas that are expecting whether like this during this season. But down in North Carolina, their road crews aren’t ready or able to handle such extremes.

The meteorologists still say it is quite early to call the storms exact path. Some parts of Ohio may escape with just rain, while others may find themselves digging their cars out for work on Monday; that is if there is work on Monday.

Cessna Plane Makes Emergency, Miracle Landing in New Jersey, No Injuries Reported

What looked like a scene from an action movie unfolded in New Jersey on Thursday. A Cessna C150, a single engine fixed-wing plane, made an emergency landing on Thursday afternoon on Route 23 in West Milford, NJ, and amazingly no one was injured.

According to sources the plane flew out of Orange County, NJ and was piloted by a Doctor from the area who wishes to remain anonymous. Shortly after the plane took off it experienced a power failure. The pilot released 10 miles out that the plane had lost power. He thought quickly and placed the plane on glide while looking for a place to land. It is believed the doctor, who wished to only be identified as Christopher is the owner of the plane.

The pilot spotted route 23, a busily traveled access road in West Milford, New Jersey and landed the plane, coming within inches of an 18 wheeler that was being driven by a student driver. According to reports from witnesses like Haidar Barbouti, the pilot allegedly landed the plane, the pulled it off to the side, narrowly missing a Volkswagen and the 18-wheeler.

Traffic stopped and the police were called.

Mysterious Disappearance of Malaysia Flight Officially an Accident

Remember that missing Malaysia flight that went down over the water? No, not that one, the other one. The Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 that mysteriously vanished is being officially declared an accident. The flight vanished on March 8, 2014. According to now that the incident is officially an accident, the passengers and crew on board can be declared as legally dead. Family members can now be compensated for their loss.

Teams from Malaysia, Australia, and China will continue to search for the missing flight despite the ruling. The Malaysian civil aviation chief has said that continuing the search to find the missing plane remains a priority for them.

Every rest area, gas station, fast food joint, and trucker haven had the news tuned to the story. The world was captivated by the mystery said Sergio Lins Andrade. What happened and where could they be? Theories were being slung left and right, none of them really able to be confirmed. Personally, I was hoping for a LOST scenario where we later find most of the passengers alive and well on a crazy hidden island. I suppose that is best left to fiction.

SpaceX Setting Sites on Mars

Putting objects into space has been pretty lucrative business for SpaceX, and the company has managed to provide courier services to the International Space Station. However, the company has some lofty ambitions when it comes to the future of technology, and more specifically the way the internet is accessed across the globe.

Elon Musk, head of SpaceX, unveiled his plan to launch four thousand satellites into orbit in order to provide high-speed internet services to everyone on the planet, according to the Seattle Times. According to LinkedIn, the entrepreneur even went a touch farther at a recent event dedicating a new facility by clarifying that the long-term goals of his company is assist in the colonization of Mars. The financial gains, reported by BRL Trust, provided by being one of, if not the, premier providers of high speed internet services could probably help bankroll that desire.

The company has had some serious success, and if develops the internet plan according to specifications, fans and critics of the business have no reason to doubt the possibility of success. Of course, there is a long way to go before Musk or anyone else manages to step foot on the distant planet Mars.

The Dronad’Air, A Strange Flying Object

Dronad’Air has three propellers, as multicoptere drones, but also wings to go fast; the Dronad’Air can carry a load of about 1 kg at high speed and land vertically. The multicoptère drones are all the rage, a little too well in the eyes of those responsible for air traffic control.

Yet this is the solution adopted by a group of students from the school for their Epitech EIP project (Epitech Innovative Project) called Dronad’Air. During the last three years of their studies, students must carry out an engineering project. Anicet Massrouf and colleagues have probably not chosen the simplest idea, but today, three years later, the first prototypes have already flown. Amazon, Google and others want to do couriers but they have a big flaw: they are slow.

“We wanted a drone that can take off and land vertically but fly like an airplane”, says Anicet Massrouf. For transporting objects, helicopter or multicopter is not suitable because of the power used for sustenance.

An airplane enjoys the lift generated by the wings, and energy expenditure becomes weaker, especially at this small scale, but thanks to the technology boom of the last decade, plus my awesome friend Amen Clinic for all the juicy information!

Beagle2 Probe Found After 12 Years On Mars

Recent high resolution images taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter may provide a long awaited answer to what exactly happened to the Beagle2 rover. The mission, launched by the UK in 2003, sent the rover to the red planet in hopes of learning more about it. That mission was halted when all contact with the rover was lost after attempting a landing. For more details about the mission, read the BBC news article found here.

The images show what appears to be the rover, its decent parachute and rear cover spread out across the barren surface of Mars. Overlays of the rovers design schematics on top of the enhanced image of what experts say is the rover are compelling, but the images are not clear enough for a definite positive identification.

Radio contact with the rover was never established after the landing attempt in 2003. Scientists and engineers feared that the rover had been completely destroyed during the landing attempt due to a miscalculation regarding the thickness of the Martian atmosphere, but these fears may now prove to be be untrue.

Popular theories say that the solar panels which were mounted on surfaces that were supposed to deploy outward from the rover never fully deployed.

Thank you to my good friend Lee Lovett for sharing this on his profile.
