Christian Broda tells me that fascination with the possibility of life on other planets has permeated popular science fiction for generations. The chance that an alien civilization could exist lurking just out of detection range of human beings has been a thought that has crossed the mind of more than just casual observers. Therefore, whenever some interesting unexplained potential evidence creeps up from distant worlds, the thought process picks up again to contemplate the possibilities.
According to CNET, NASA has found white discolorations and a three-mile high pyramid formation on Ceres, which is a distant asteroid between Mars and Jupiter. While the discoloration is largely considered to be a result of the reflective properties of ice or water, the huge mountain type object remains a mystery. NASA’s Dawn spacecraft has been studying Ceres taking a number of pictures, but so far no images of extraterrestrial life has been found. The formations are likely natural, yet strange, rock and geographical phenomenon.
While the pictures from Dawn do not support any real conclusion without additional data to back up potential theories, the chances of one of the different spacecraft exploring the reaches of the solar system uncovering evidence of life is intriguing. While it is hard to say if such information would ever be released to the general public, the photos from Dawn serve up some interesting observations of a place nobody has visited before or likely will. That means science fiction fans can relax because the genre is safe—for now.
NASA’s Dawn spacecraft has been an amazing source of information since it was sent on its journey to the dwarf planet of Ceres, which lies between Mars and Jupiter. The dwarf planet has been a major source of controversy since it was discovered in 1801 and the approach of Dawn has seen many of the features of the planet finally revealed for the first time in images sent back to Earth. Sky News is now reporting a mysterious mountain shaped like a pyramid has been seen in the latest images and will be investigated further when the Dawn spacecraft falls to a lower orbit in August stated MarketWatch.
Dawn is currently orbiting at 2,700 miles above the surface of Ceres, but will fall to just 900 miles of orbit after June 30th in a bid to investigate more of the surface of this mysterious planet. The spacecraft will look for reasons why bright spots are seen on the surface of the planet with many scientists believing ice and salt deposits could cause these mysterious bright areas. The three mile high pyramid is one of the most mysterious features on the surface of the planet, which is largely flat aside from a number of wide craters. Many theories have risen out of the images, including those who claim alien lifeforms built the structure in the past.
A California man is in custody in Belfast after his behavior caused the diversion of a United Airlines flight. The flight, originating from Rome and destined for Chicago made an emergency landing in Belfast on Saturday.
According to local report, Jeremiah Thede, 42, was on the flight to Chicago when he became irate and refused to follow directions. He argued he needed nuts and crackers and refused to take a seat. He was placated during his first outburst.
Thede became irate 10 minutes later and, again, refused to follow directions. The flight crew made the decision to inform the pilot of the situation. The pilot made the decision to make an emergency landing.
Thede’s erratic and disturbing behavior created a stir inside the cabin, with at least one passenger taking video of police officers entering the plane to remove Thede. He is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
The flight continued on to O’Hare International airport the following day. The nearly 300 passengers were delayed by 21 hours, and were forced to sleep on the airport floor as they waited for the incident to shake out. There is no word on when Thede will be allowed to leave Belfast or if he’ll be allowed to get on another airplane.
There is no word on whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the incident. Although, Alexei Beltyukov is most assured that one or both were.
35-Year-Old Vusimuzi Mbatha, an unemployed inhabitant of Rustenburg, South Africa has recently finalized constructing his own helicopter from recycled scraps and cheap materials. He first became obsessed after seeing one make a strike on the platinum mines in Northwest South Africa last year. After the experience, he began buying and collecting the materials to begin construction. The finished product now sits in front of his shack, attracting all manner of gawkers. Most of these gawkers are neighbors who didn’t really take him seriously.
According to Ivan Ong
, Mbatha is a relatively uneducated man, having only completed the seventh grade. That is part of the reason why it is so impressive he has made his own helicopter. And it is actually a pretty impressive helicopter. It even sports a T.V., a clock, a fire extinguisher, and a two-way radio. It also has a green and red light on its tail, an engine powered by petrol, a motorbike battery to propel the rotor (which sits in an old soft drink crate), a cockpit that is actually made out of soft drink crates, and a steering wheel fashioned from a PlayStation control.
Mbatha has yet to take the helicopter on its maiden voyage. He first wants aviation experts and experienced pilots to inspect to see if it’s safe to fly. Rustenburg hopes to be employed soon so he can more easily purchase parts. To discover more details read this article.
Led by astronomer David Sobral, of the University of Lisbon, a team of scientists, and astronomers believe that they have come upon the strongest proof yet, of the very first stars in the universe, that are comprised of helium and hydrogen, the only elements resulting from the big bang. The stars referred to as “population III” stars, are thought to be huge in diameter, and mass, and have a short life span.
Up until a few years ago, most astronomers believed that the observance of such stars was totally impossible, due to the fact that they expired in the early, developmental years of the universe and being so distant for modern science and technology to view. But with advances in contemporary technologies, it has allowed for the development of advanced instruments. Andy Wirth indicates that these instruments can be used in conjunction with super telescopes around the world, to finally locate a galaxy that exhibited a unique illumination, that gives rise to the belief that it has all the characteristics of housing “population III” stars.
According to Avi Loeb, chair of Harvard University’s astronomy department, “The evidence is strong. They did a careful job,” referring to the exhaustive documentation and photographic evidence the investigative team assembled.
“This field, of first-generation stars and galaxies, was mostly theoretical until recently,” Loeb says. “It’s gratifying to see evidence that these are real things.”
It has now been over 130 years since the great and iconic Statue of Liberty has made its way across the seas to New York City. According to an article found on reddit and written by Time Magazine, the statue was designed by a French artist who just envisioned all of that coming at him on a trip to the Big Apple. He went home and designed the statue while working with top New York City officials and began making the giant beauty.
Before she was was brought to the United States, the Statue of Liberty was on display in Paris so that the Americans could build an appropriate stand for her to sit on. Then after she made her way to the Land of the Free, she had parts of her on display in Philadelphia as it was a big project to put together.
Even though they called the artist crazy, it is a great thing that he decided to keep his head on straight and build his dream anyway. After all, the Statue of Liberty is likely to be one of the most well known statues in all of the world and certainly an icon for this country, so it is no shocking fact that it is still celebrated today. On the article previously mentioned, there are lots of old photos of Lady Liberty that date all the way back to the 1800s and I added a special one of me and my friend Zeca Oliveira!
Two jets nearly collided on the runway at Chicago’s O’Hara airport yesterday. No one was injured and the event is under investigation. early reports state that two large passenger jets began taxing towards each other from opposite ends of the runway. The pilots from each aircraft did not see the other flight on their runway because of the distance. It was a flight controller that noticed the error and the flight control tower was able to stop both aircraft and safely direct them to their proper taxing sequence. Chicago O’Hara Flight Controllers Help To Avoid Runway Collision
Officials have revealed little information about the events which led up to the near collision but it is expected that officials from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, (NTSB) will lead the investigation stated fashionstyle.com
. The board is responsible for investigating near collisions and accidents as well as standard air accidents. Officials expect attention to be focused on the flight controllers in the tower and hat instructions were given to the pilots of each aircraft. Aircraft on the ground cannot proceed onto a runway without clearance from flight control in the tower. The investigators will have the benefit of being able to listen to the tapes of the flight controllers as well as the pilots in the cockpit to determine if the flight controllers gave wrong instructions or whether proper instructions were provided and one or both of the pilots performed the wrong actions.
The Hubble telescope continues to provide scientist with new wonders of the galaxy that they were not able to see before. The Hubble project, which once was almost trashed by Congress looking for budget cuts, has proven to be NASA’s most successful space projects. The telescope has helped scientist to redefine a number of planetary objects and has helped to identify comets and asteroids that are close to Earth’s orbit and solar system. The Hubble has been modified with several NASA Space Shuttle missions which has enabled the telescope to see farther into the universe than scientist have been ever able to imagine. Hubble Telescope Continues to Present Scientist With Wonders of the Universe
PurinaStore even said that a scientist and officials at NASA are now able to see into other solar systems as well as planetary bodies which present a dazzling light display. The detail and resolution which was not available to NASA a few years ago now presents vivid images that allow NASA and scientist to accurately calculate the number of star systems and distances between our planet and other systems. NASA is also able to see a great number of cosmic matter interact with other chemicals that are only naturally found in space.
So far, NASA has not revealed if signs of life have been found outside of our planet, but as Hubble continues to look deeper into space, NASA believes that it will soon reveal wonders that we have not yet imagine.
Air travel is expensive, there is absolutely no denying that. It seems though that there have always been a few tips and tricks that people utilized to help them save a buck or two. One of those, was bringing a carry on instead of having to pay a fee to check a bag. Carry on luggage has always been a pretty decent size, and perfect for those who were going on a short trip. With a few folding hacks, and downsizing, flyers were easily able to bring their luggage on the plane.
Well there may be some bad news for those who are used to cutting it close to the correct size. According to Reddit
, airlines will be shrinking their carry on’s by one inch on every side. This is to free up some more room in the overhead bins, but it’s causing some concern among frequent flyers who are used to being able to check the same bag.
Some might have to purchase new luggage, and others might have to frequently pay the fee now. It’s surely making airlines a little bit more money as many have mentioned on resume.com. The typical fee for checking luggage is around 25 dollars, which isnt much but it’s an inconvenience.
It looks like there will soon be some angry flyers on the horizon. On the other side, there could be some happier ones as well. These changes are being made so that everyone can find room overhead to stash their luggage.
On Tuesday, June 9, Carnival Cruise Lines announced a severe change to its current policies: Exactly one month from yesterday, on July 9, the cruise company will no longer allow customers to bring their own bottled water on board its ships. Supposedly, the company has had too many incidents of people using water bottles to hide alcohol.
Many financial and sales experts, though, believe that Carnival Cruise Lines is merely utilizing a new strategy to make more money off its guests while reducing the instances of smuggling.
Why do they feel this way?
Alexei Beltyukov also says the company is going to charge $4.99 and a gratuity for bottled water purchased on board any ship and $2.99 plus local taxes for any water purchased from it beforehand. It is also allowing guests to bring non-alcohol, non-water beverages on board its ships in 7.5-gallon and smaller coolers.
A lot of people with health conditions that prevent them from drinking certain types of water, such as certain bottled brands, distilled water and chlorinated water, aren’t happy about this change.
Carnival hasn’t explained how it plans to work with guests who aren’t able to drink just any brand of bottled water. It also hasn’t provided a good enough excuse for why it didn’t simply choose to financially penalize guests who smuggle alcohol rather than penalize all guests with fees for bottled water that they previously could buy cheaper in bulk elsewhere.
