Dr. Mark Holterman currently works as a professor at the University of Illinois where he teaches in the pediatric surgery division at the College of Medicine, Peoria. Here, his work focuses on surgical care of infants and children, medical research, and teaching medical students and surgical residents. Education and Work History

For his education, Dr. Mark Holterman attended Yale University for a BA in Biology before proceeding to University of Michigan for his MD and PhD in Medicine and Immunology. Since then, he has worked at various hospitals and universities, with a focus on pediatric care. He worked as a resident in general surgery at the University of Virginia before moving to Seattle Children’s Hospital as a fellow in pediatric surgery. From there, he moved to the University of Washington where he served as an instructor in surgery, His work at the Clinical Research Institute Montreal as a research associate focused on immunology research which has played into his interests to date. To pursue his interest in research further, he moved to the University of Illinois, Chicago, as a professor where he was responsible for developing basic and translational research programs.
