Who is Iskandar Safa?

Iskandar Safa is the founder and CEO of the Privinvest Group. Safa had established Privinvest almost 30 years ago. Safa was born in 1955, and he was raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Safa was raised in a good home, but because of the civil war in Lebanon, he went through several challenges in his youth.

The Safa family had a civil engineering company in Lebanon, and Iskandar Safa had the dream to work for his family’s company. Safa went to the American University of Beirut, and he obtained his civil engineering degree there.

Into the Ship Building Business

When Safa was young, he was raised by the sea. Perhaps from his early years, he acquired an interest in naval construction. In the early 1990s, Safa acquired his first shipyard. This was a dilapidated shipyard that seemed to have little potential. Iskandar Safa was able to transform that shipyard and make it into a thriving enterprise in just 2 years.

The Future of Privinvest according to Iskandar Safa


When Iskandar Safa first entered the world of shipbuilding, he had no idea that his company Privinvest would one day be one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups. Privinvest’s humble beginnings can be traced back to the early 1990s when Iskandar Safa obtained an unprosperous shipyard in France called Constructions Mecaniques de Normandie.

Using his business acumen, Iskandar Safa was able to revitalize the shipyard, which is now an essential part of Privinvest and is the home to more than four hundred employees.

In the nearly thirty years since its inception, Privinvest has become a leader in shipbuilding, serving militaries, commercial businesses, and private customers. Iskandar Safa Of Privinvest Talks About The Superyachts His Company Has Built

Iskandar Safa is the Co-founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the Privinvest Group. It is based in Beirut, Lebanon, and owns three shipbuilding yards in Germany. These are Lindenau, Germany Naval Yards Kiel, and Nobiskrug. It also owns shipbuilding yards in the United Kingdom, France, the Arabian Gulf, and the Mediterranean.

Iskandar Safa was born in Beirut in 1955. He studied civil engineering at that city’s American University. Iskandar Safa also attended INSEAD. This is a graduate business school located in Fontainebleau, France. Acquiring an MBA, he started an international trading firm in 1982. He started building ships in the early 1990s.

Nobiskrug is one of the Privinvest Group’s largest shipbuilding yards. It is located in Rendsburg and dates its history back to 1905. It has built several famous superyachts such as Odessa II, Sailing Yacht A, Mogambo, and Sycara V. It doesn’t advertise or attract media attention because it simply doesn’t need to attract customers from around the world.

In 2007, Iskandar Safa partnered with Al Aïn International in the United Arab Emirates. The goal was to develop a naval construction group, Abu Dhabi MAR, that would develop the UAE’s superyacht industry. In 2011, the Privinvest Group became the sole owner of this venture. The Privinvest Group owns France’s Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN). Some of its best-known ships include Cloud 9 and Slipstream. How Iskandar Safa Built Privinvest from the Ground Up

Businessman and philanthropist Iskandar Safa is best known for creating and running the shipbuilding group known as Privinvest. Iskandar Safa started the company in 1990, by teaming up with his brother Akram and searching for properties to obtain. The pair discovered a failing French shipyard in 1992 and acquired the site. Within a few years, Safa was able to turn the shipyard around. It now employs more than 400 hundred people and is one of Privinvest’s most active building sites.

Privinvest is well-known for building naval ships for NATO countries and commercial ships for the private sector. Iskandar is the CEO of the company. Iskandar would obtain a civil engineering degree from the American University of Beirut in 1978. Iskandar Safa would also earn an MBA from INSEAD, European Institute of Business Administration in 1982. Akram is a graduate of Ohio State University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
